Reverce vending machines are available to all residents and guests of Gabrovo.
After a period of testing and synchronizing the software of the two machines, the Municipality of Gabrovo deployed them in two locations with open access – the vestibule of the “Orlovets” sports hall (next to the ticket center) and the lobby of the “Hristo Botev” sports complex. Boards with short instructions for their use are also placed near the devices.
Deposit vending machines accept plastic bottles and aluminum jugs. After finalizing the waste delivery, the devices issue a coupon with points, and users can collect their coupons to receive an eco-friendly gift – a textile bag, a picnic blanket, an organic basil box, a thermos with a cup, a cork set, a backpack.

The two facilities were located just a day before the major international holiday of Earth Day, in which the project team saw a good sign – a symbol of preserved nature. And discovering more symbolism in the good beginning, it turned out that the first official user of the wendig machines was a child. It is the young sports hopeful Diyan (pictured, below) who first placed waste in the vending machine located in the Hristo Botev Stadium building.
Vending machines ensure precise separation of materials, possible through a system for recognizing packages by type of material, shape, barcode and liquid content, and the waste acceptance rate is up to 40 items per minute. The delivered packages are compacted in the devices, then directed for recycling.
The Municipality of Gabrovo is in dialogue with potential partners regarding the possibility of using the collected coupons to receive discounts when shopping in various commercial establishments or using services. Business representatives, as well as all interested parties, are welcome to submit their proposals for joint partnership and bonification of deposit vending machine users. The deposit vending machines were purchased by the Municipality of Gabrovo, through the implementation of the project “Implementation of a pilot demonstration project in the field of waste management on the territory of the city of Gabrovo”, financed through the operational program “Environment 2014-2020”.
